A Veteran falling asleep in her bedMany people in the U.S. struggle with getting high-quality sleep. Without it, your  energy may be low, and it can be tough to manage your mood. Sleeping better can help. It might also be a quick fix for several issues affected by troubled sleep, such as memory problems, difficulty making decisions, and more.

Find out how virtual appointments through VA Video Connect may help you sleep better.

Sleep apnea and VA Video Connect

Sleep apnea is a serious disorder where your breathing repeatedly stops and starts. Some common signs of sleep apnea are loud snoring, gasping for air while sleeping, morning headaches, and excessive daytime sleepiness.

Sleep apnea is usually diagnosed with a sleep study. This is important if you have sleep problems that last longer than a few weeks. This test can be done at home after setting up equipment using a VA Video Connect visit. Telehealth can also support you with CPAP fittings, CPAP setup failures, and sleep consultations.

Insomnia and VA Video Connect

Insomnia is another common problem for Veterans. People with insomnia have difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. The VA offers a behavioral modification therapy known as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, or CBT-I, to help people with chronic insomnia get a better night’s sleep. CBT-I is available using VA Video Connect.

VA Video Connect helps Veterans

VA Video Connect lets Veterans quickly and easily connect with their health care provider over live video. That means sometimes there’s no need to travel to a facility for sleep-related appointments. Telehealth makes appointments efficient and can be done anywhere, reliable internet or mobile data connection.

If you’re interested in telehealth appointments, reach out to your health care team. Use Secure Messaging to ask if you could have an at-home sleep study over VA Video Connect. You’ll need to have a Premium account to send a Secure Message.
