Short-Term Goals Lead to Long-Term Loss
Exercise, diet, lifestyle changes make a difference in three lives
MOVE! Weight Management Program helps Veterans lose weight, keep it off, and improve their health. It includes the most up-to-date approaches for weight management. Not only does it encourage healthy eating behavior, but it also increases physical activity and promotes any amount of weight loss. MOVE! works.
With the help of your MOVE! care team, you can reduce health risks, prevent or reverse certain diseases, improve your quality of life, and even live longer. More than 50,000 Veterans are using MOVE! If you're still on the fence about using the program, discover these three stories from Veterans who have seen success:
Debbi Desisto: "It's worth the time. If you follow the program, it works!"
Veteran Debbi Desisto has lost 44 pounds and is committed to sticking with it through the MOVE! program. She attends MOVE! and other classes offered at her VA, such as yoga. At home, she stays on track by keeping a food log and engaging with the daily TeleMOVE! Messages.
Debbi is exceeding the physical activity goal for weight management by being active for more than 400 minutes per week! She says, "I feel better, and I'm able to do more things."
Linda Price: "The accountability and support from the team was the best aspect."
Veteran Linda Price tried many other weight loss programs but only met success through MOVE! The tool that helped Linda was short-term goal setting, which allowed her to achieve her long-term success. She said that she understood that small steps must be taken to achieve sustainable weight loss.
"The accountability and support from the team was the best aspect; they always provided me with new ideas on how I could continue to make healthy lifestyle changes whenever I reached a plateau," said Linda.
Judson Carter: "I beat diabetes."
Veteran Judson Carter completed his weight loss journey by attending MOVE! group sessions and participating in TeleMOVE! He said, "The TeleMOVE! Program in Ann Arbor helped me stay accountable, and I continued on to obtain my weight loss goal." TeleMOVE! allows Veterans to interact with MOVE! information and VA staff from home, using inhome messaging devices and other tools. Attending the group sessions at the Medical Center isn't always necessary.
He followed guidance provided by MOVE! and has been free from diabetes for five years. He said, "at 62, I have not felt this great since after USMC boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot! MOVE! is the best resource available! I recommend this program to all Veterans who struggle with weight issues. MOVE! provided me with the information. It is up to you to begin and stick with the lifestyle changes."
