Independence Day Cookouts
Keep your food festive this summer
Summer is officially upon us, but with restrictions still in place due to COVID-19 concerns, your Independence Day celebrations may look a bit different this year. Some communities are scaling back their parades and fireworks displays, while others are limiting larger gathers.
There are fun, festive, and most importantly, safe ways you can still celebrate from the comfort of your home. Food is one of the best parts of the Independence Day gatherings, and while you may not be heading to a large family potluck this year, you can still enjoy some yummy dishes from home. We have a few new recipes you can try with your family this 4th of July weekend.
Heat up the grill
Celebrate with all the foods the 4th is famous for and prepare them in a healthier way. We’re talking cookout staples, like:
Buttermilk Baked Chicken - This recipe calls for the chicken to bake in a roasting pan in the oven for 25-30 minutes. You can modify the recipe by placing your chicken, with or without your roasting pan on the grill instead.
Black Bean Burgers
If you’re throwing some meat on the grill and want to avoid extra salt and pepper, add this spice rub for the perfect added flavor.
International recipes
The 4th of July celebrates all Americans, no matter their origin. Expand your horizons by trying a dish at home from a different region. We have recipes from all over you can try, such as:
Mediterranean Chickpea Salad - no grilling here! But add your chickpeas to the grill for a smoky flavor.
Tandoori Style Chicken - this recipe suggests lining a baking sheet with foil and baking the chicken in the oven. Put the chicken on the grill for tastier results.
Red, white, and blue desserts
From berry-topped pies to dazzling Jell-O salads, we have patriotic dessert recipes that will steal the show:
