Lower your risk of getting sick, learn about online tools
VA is following the CDC's lead to bring you the most up-to-date information about the coronavirus. We can also provide you information on how to lower your risk of getting COVID-19, as well as what you should do if you feel sick. This is especially important for older adults and people who have chronic medical problems such as heart disease, diabetes, and lung disease. Your health care team may choose to care for you by telephone and video, as well as use secure messaging, so that you can avoid traveling to a medical center.
Lower your risk
Older adults and people with chronic medical conditions have a higher risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19. That doesn't mean that if you're younger, you don't need to protect yourself. CDC advises things that everyone, regardless of age, can do to lower the chances of getting the virus or spreading it:
If you experience symptoms such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath, please call your local medical center or clinic before making a trip in.
In addition to calling your medical center first, telephone and video care can help reduce your risk of infection by eliminating the need to travel. This reduces the chance of infection for you and other Veterans at risk for a highly contagious illness.

My HealtheVet - My HealtheVet is a great way to manage your VA care. You can also easily reach your health care team while you are at home through Secure Messaging. While not for use in emergencies, a secure and private video appointment begins with a simple request through a secure message.
Video Telehealth - Video telehealth options such as VA Video Connect enable you and your VA provider to conduct secure, real-time video visits using the camera on your phone, computer, or tablet. If you don't need an in-person physical examination, sign in to Secure Messaging and check with your VA provider to see if you can manage your appointment via video telehealth.
