Learn How to Be More Physically Active Every Day
Do you want to feel healthier, have more energy, and sleep better at night? If you're busy and feel like you don't have time, there are a few things you can do at work. You can stand instead of sitting, take the stairs instead of the elevator, or park further away from the entrance. These quick and easy activities will have a huge and long-term impact on your health. Just remember, doing some physical activity is better than doing nothing.
For substantial health benefits, you should complete two and a half hours per week of physical activity. Activity should be in periods of at least ten minutes.
The health benefits include lower risk of:
- Heart disease
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Colon and breast cancers.
Regular physical activity may also help:
- Prevent weight gain
- Reduce depression
- Improve sleep.
Luckily, there are many ways one can work out without going to the gym. You can carry your groceries, mow the lawn, walk the dog, or even play golf. These are all great examples of muscle training, cardio, and stretching activities.
Take your time and find what works for you. Complete the self-assessment on MyHealtheVet to find what skills and behavior changes will help you become more physically active.
