What is the Shared Vitals feature in My HealtheVet?

The Shared Vitals feature lets you record and share your vitals that are saved to the Shared patient generated health database. Vital sign readings tracked with health-related VA mobile apps are transferred to the Shared patient generated health database.

Note: Your Shared Vitals health information will be automatically shared with VA, but it will not be monitored or reviewed by your VA health care team. If you have concerns or want any specific Shared Vitals data viewed by your health care team, you must contact your health care team directly.

What is the difference between Shared Vitals, Vitals + Readings, and VA Vitals + Readings in My HealtheVet?

Note: Your Shared Vitals health information will be automatically shared with VA, but it will not be monitored or reviewed by your VA health care team. If you have concerns or want any specific Shared Vitals data viewed by your health care team, you must contact your health care team directly.

  • Shared Vitals - Shared Vitals is a feature that lets you self-enter health information that is automatically shared with VA via the Shared patient generated health database. You must have registered in My HealtheVet as a VA Patient with a Premium account to use the Shared Vitals feature.

  • Vitals (Vitals + Readings) - Vitals (Vitals + Readings) is a feature that lets you self-enter health information that is saved in My HealtheVet. Vitals (Vitals + Readings) is available to all My HealtheVet account type users. Your VA health care team cannot access and view this health data. Share your self-entered Vitals + Readings data by printing your customized VA Blue Button report and bringing it to a clinical appointment.

  • VA Vitals + Readings - VA Vitals + Readings is health information your VA health care team enters into your official VA health record. Your vital sign readings are taken during an appointment, a procedure, or when you are a patient in the hospital. You must have registered in My HealtheVet as a VA Patient with a Premium account to use the VA Vitals + Readings feature. You can download a customized VA Blue Button report containing your VA Vitals + Readings data.

Can I record vital sign readings using other VA sources in addition to My HealtheVet?

Your vital sign readings can be recorded from a variety of VA sources including, but not limited to:

  • Health-related VA mobile apps (such as Annie, My VA Images, and MobileKidney)

  • Devices that are synced with VA through the VA Sync My Health Data app, such as glucometers, smart watches, and accelerometers

Vital sign readings tracked with health-related VA mobile apps are transferred to the Shared Vitals feature in My HealtheVet.

  • Heart Rate (shared)

  • Body Weight (shared)

  • Body Temperature (shared)

  • Pain (shared)

  • Pulse Oximetry (shared)

  • Respiratory Rate (shared)
