When you register, you can create a Personal Health Record and record your health information. You may also use the journals and other tools to track your health measures. You can only see this information when you are logged in, so check it out and register today.

My HealtheVet offers two account types, a Basic, and Premium. After you register, your account type will be displayed on the welcome banner as an icon after your name. For example if you have a Basic Account, there will be a basic account icon after your name. Those with a Premium Account will have a premium account icon after their name.

  • Basic Account - Anyone can register for this account type. It provides limited access to features in My HealtheVet that you self-enter. You may use the journals and other tools to track your health measures. However, you cannot see your personal information located in VA or DoD systems.

  • Premium Account - This account type gives users the highest level of access to My HealtheVet features. To get this type of account you need to go through the identification process and have your My HealtheVet registration information (full name, Social Security Number (SSN), date of birth (DOB) and birth sex) matched to VA/DoD records.

If you are a VA patient or CHAMPVA beneficiary enrolled in the VA health care system, as a registered user you may be able to get a Premium account. This will let you use My HealtheVet to refill your prescriptions online. Getting a Premium account can occur two ways.

  1. At the time you register

    • Select VA Patient or CHAMPVA beneficiary under Relationship to VA

    • My HealtheVet checks to ensure that your profile information (name, Social Security number, date of birth and birth sex) matches your electronic VA/DoD records

    • If there is a match you will automatically get a Premium account.

  2. If you already have a Basic account - you need to update the information on your Profile page. To do this:

    • Sign in to your My HealtheVet account

    • Select the Personal Information tab

    • Select My Profile

    • Enter changes or make sure your personal traits (full name, Social Security Number, date of birth and birth sex) match what is in your VA or DoD record

    • Make sure you select VA patient or CHAMPVA beneficiary under Relationship to VA

    • Select Save

Important: With an Advanced or Premium Account, your personal traits (full name, Social Security Number (SSN), date of birth (DOB) and birth sex) are locked down on your My Profile page. In addition, your relationship as a Veteran/VA Patient is also locked down. You cannot change this information. This is done to protect you because information in your registration is used to verify your identity.

Using My HealtheVet can help you gain a better understanding of your health status. When you register, it allows you to explore different ways you can monitor and improve your health. When you use the tools on My HealtheVet you become a more active partner with your health care team. Working hand in hand with your health care team and sharing your information may help them better understand your personal healthcare needs. The great benefit is that you can easily access your personal health information in your My HealtheVet account - anytime and anywhere you have Internet access. Your information is available to you at your convenience, 24/7.

When you select the VA Blue Button, your My HealtheVet information is available for you to view and print. You can also download your information to a computer or other storage device (CD or thumb drive). This lets you take your personal health information with you. The benefit of using the VA Blue Button is to improve information sharing between you and your health care team. Shared information may improve how your health is managed by both VA and non-VA health care providers.
