Learn More About VA Appointments

VA Appointments give VA patients a detailed view of their VA clinic appointments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You have the option to view, self-schedule or cancel your VA Appointments. The VA online scheduling tool may be available to access your appointments that are from your official VA Medical Record. Access to online scheduling varies by facility, date of last appointment, and type of appointment.

Sign in with an identity-verified account to manage your health care online. If you don’t have an identity-verified sign-in account, such as Login.gov or ID.me, you can create one today.

Once you are signed in, you can view your VA appointments in your Health Calendar. The following links provide additional information about VA Appointments:

Canceled VA Appointments

You should always check the status of your VA Appointments before your clinic visit. This lets you know if your appointment has been changed or canceled. You can do this one of two ways:

  1. Health Calendar -

    • On the calendar, the date box displays the following text:
      (Time) VA Appointment: CANCELED

    • This text is also a link; if selected, it takes you to the Event Detail page. This page provides more information about the appointment that was canceled.

  2. VA Appointment -

    • The status of your VA Appointment can be viewed on the View My VA Appointments page.

    • From the Summary table, select the link that displays the clinic name. This takes you to the Event Detail page.

    • If your appointment has been canceled, the Status shows CANCELED.

If your appointment was canceled by the clinic, they will reschedule it and send you a notification. You can also use Secure Messaging.

Community Care Appointments

You can view your Community Care Appointments in My HealtheVet. These appointments have been set up for you by the VA. They are not at your VA facility, but scheduled for you in the community. This appointment type is listed under your VA Appointments as Community Care.

If you have a question regarding your Community Care Appointment, please contact your VA facility. You may use the VA Facility Locator to find the VA facility phone number where you receive care.

Please note: If your Community Care Appointment was canceled or rescheduled by the community provider, it may not show up on your calendar or in your VA Appointment as CANCELED. If you do not get a reminder about your appointment from the community provider, you should call them.

VA Appointments Email Reminders

You can receive email reminders for your VA appointments by setting them up on your My Profile page.

You will receive two (2) reminder emails for each appointment. Emails are sent 14 days and 3 days prior to your appointment. The email reminders are sent to the email address you provided when you registered for My HealtheVet. When you change your email address, be sure to make that change in your My HealtheVet account on your My Profile page.

After Visit Summary

An After Visit Summary may not be available to you. Not all VA clinics offer an After Visit Summary. The Summary also may not have all the information about your clinic visit. Contact the VA Provider you visited with if you have any questions or concerns regarding your health.
