Easily manage travel reimbursements with the VA: Health and Benefits app

Did you know it’s easier than ever to get reimbursed for travel to your VA appointments? With the VA: Health and Benefits mobile app, you can submit mileage-only travel claims directly from your smartphone or mobile device. How do I know if I’m eligible for travel pay?

If you meet certain criteria, such as having a service-connected disability rating of 30% or higher, you may be eligible for health care travel reimbursement. The VA: Health and Benefits app displays a prompt on the home screen for appointments that may be eligible for mileage reimbursement. You can also learn more about eligibility for travel pay reimbursement on VA.gov.

How do I submit a claim for travel pay?

You can download the VA: Health and Benefits app from your preferred mobile app store. With the app, you can submit mileage-only travel claims as well as complete many other tasks to manage your VA health care and benefits.

Once you have downloaded the VA: Health and Benefits app, you will need to sign in with your Login.gov or ID.me account.

Then follow these steps to submit your mileage-only travel claims:

  1. Select the Health tab at the bottom of the app screen. Then select Appointments.

  2. View your past appointments. You’ll have 30 days from the appointment date to file.

  3. Select the appointment you’d like to claim.

  4. If you haven’t set up direct deposit with VA, you’ll need to do so before continuing. Follow the link in the app to learn how.

  5. Next, tap Continue, and simply follow the prompts. Make sure your starting address is correct. Then, review your travel details and confirm everything looks right. Tap Submit claim.

And that’s it. Your claim is on its way.
